Altare Barolo La Morra 2003 |
|||
$ 92.00 USD
Altare’s 2003 Barolo reveals an elegant, yet firm personality in its
expression of super-ripe red fruits, spices and menthol. It offers
lovely depth and precision at this level, even if it understandably
lacks some freshness. Still, it is a wine with an enviable track record
and should drink well for another decade or so. Anticipated maturity:

Altare Barolo Arborina 2003 |
|||
$ 121.56 USD
he 2003 Barolo Arborina presents a livelier color than the normale,
along with gorgeous red fruit, menthol and spice overtones that carry
through to the finish. This elegant, refined Barolo offers superb
balance in a style that captures the essence of the vintage in its
additional weightiness, but without compromising the integrity of the
vineyard Altare has single-handedly made among the most recognized in
Barolo. It is one of the highlights of the vintage, but will require a
few years of cellaring. Anticipated maturity: 2009-2021. Elio Altare’s
wines represent the finest of the artisanal tradition, so it can hardly
be surprising that he has once again produced some of the vintage’s
most compelling Barolos. In fact, with his 2003 Barolos Altare shows
just how far ahead of the pack he is. Now that he is officially
“retired,” Altare is even more philosophical than in the past. “At the
end of the day 50% of what makes a wine great is luck,” says Altare, in
his characteristic self-deprecating style. If that is the case Altare
must surely be one of the luckiest growers on the planet. “This is my
40th harvest, yet each vintage has a unique story to tell, which is
what makes wine so fascinating. In 2003 we did four Nebbiolo harvests
from the 7th to the 28th of September. The earlier harvests gave us
some freshness while the later harvests provided more richness and
body.” Altare’s 2004s are potentially profound, and his cellar also
holds some of the finest 2005 Barolos I have tasted so far.

Altare Barbera d'Alba 2006 |

$ 29.50 USD
88 The 2006 Barbera d’Alba offers attractive dark cherries and plums on a medium-bodied frame. Drink this fresh, pleasing wine over the next year or two. (Oct. 2007) 88+ Full medium ruby. Very ripe, high-pitched nose hints at violet and beefsteak tomato; less fruity today than the dolcetto. Then juicy and firmly structured, with less obvious sweetness and fat to the flavors of black cherry and licorice. Showing its acidity today, as well as mocha and espresso notes. Interestingly, this displays a more roasted character than Altare's dolcetto from this very warm, rich vintage. I'd give this a year or two to sort itself out. Perfumed aromas of currant, tobacco, blood orange, menthol and dried flowers. Round and juicy but in a rather cranky stage today, and not especially sweet. This shows a nebbiolo delicacy and good mid-palate energy, but today the dusty tannins are apparent. Offers a finishing note of tobacco leaf. (Nov./Dec. 2007) Wine Spectator International Wine Cellars 5 Stars Complex nose with lots of savoury plum, bay leaf and pepper. Azelia Barolo Bricco Fiasco 1998 |

$ 73.50 USD
Eyes:Red Brick in the glass, definitely showing maturity.
Nose:Leather, cedar charcoal, cola and cherry layers. With time and decanting the cola emerges with cedar and vanilla. Over more time dry tobacco comes out as another layer. Delightfully fine nose. Palate:Tight tannins but layered. Needs decanting. Air opens up with even tannins and a solid back with a very nice silken feel. Finish: even old world finish. Some cedar and vanilla reemerge with the predominance of fruit coming out here. Overall a fine Barolo, richly layered from a good year. WA 93 |

|||
$ 55.00 USDMeticulous selection and manual harvest of Sangiovese grapes from Collosorbo's best vineyards ultimately result in the Brunello di Montalcino, a soft, rich wine. The wine is smooth and velvety with evenly balanced tannins, intense and persistent with spicy notes and a hint of liquorice; harmonious and elegant on the whole. Wine Enthusiast A standout wine thanks to lush red apple and cinnamon, coffee, tobacco, cherry cola, spice and peach cobbler-like aromas. Tasty, long finish with firm tannins and a flavorful, fruity tail in an ageworthy wine. Score: 92. April 01, 2006.Wine Advocate Collosorbo's 2001 Brunello di Montalcino is a gorgeous effort, with an expressive, perfumed nose, and layers of super-ripe red fruit, licorice and mineral nuances that open on the palate with great length and freshness, framed by fine, silky tannins that round out the finish. This sexy, irresistibly appealing Brunello should drink well to age 15. Anticipated maturity: 2008-2016. Score: 91 |

Collosorbo Brunello di Montalcino 2003 |
|||
$ 48.58 USD
"Smoke, tar, earthiness and toasted oak emerge from
Collosorbo’s brooding 2003 Brunello di Montalcino, which is unusually
powerful in this vintage. Today the wine comes across as surprisingly
fresh with a perfumed inner sweetness to the fruit that gives the
mid-palate an attractive juiciness. Although the tannins could use a
little more polish, this is a superb effort from oenologist Paolo
Caciorgna and Collosorbo in 2003. 2009-2018." Robert Parker 91 points

Baracchi Astore 2007 |
|||
$ 32.00 USDThe Baracchi winery is ideally positioned on the Cortonese hillside and adjoins the Relais. Riccardo Baracchi strongly desired to continue the family tradition of growing grapes and producing wine since 1860 giving it now a modern character and great quality with renowned wine maker, Stefano Chioccioli. Trebbiano are the grapes that give life to this wine. All operations in the vineyard are carried out by hand with the utmost attention so that each of the 6,500 vines per hectare will produce only a few bunches of grapes, each with the full expression of the plant. A tribute to the land of Cortona and to the joy of drinking well. Wine Notes

Santa Barbara Verdicchio Castelli di Jesi RIserva Stefano Antonucci 2006 |
|||
$ 35.20 USD
ach wine that comes out of traditional lines starts from an idea
that was born a little bit by chance and a little bit for bet.
I always had the conviction that the verdicchio was one of the fewest white wines which can be exalted whether in the fermentation or in wood refining. The white wine "Stefano Antonucci" was born from the use of different woods whether for typology or for size. Wine that exalts the feature of our prestigious marchigiana land. |
